Gulmarg as the word suggests literally means “the meadow of flowers” as was penned by the famous emperor of Kashmir Sultan Yousuf Shah of Chak dynasty. Set in a cup-shaped valley at a height of 8600 feet above sea level in the range of Pir Panchal, Gulmarg is at a distance of 57 km from the Srinagar city which can be covered in an hours’ time.
Demographically located at a high altitude the climate of Gulmarg is relatively cold in comparison to the other locations in Kashmir division. The highest temperature ranges up to 20 degree Celsius in the month of July and lowest goes to minus 8 degree Celsius in the month of January.
